ParentLink
ParentLink is an automated calling system used by Wichita Public Schools to contact parents, students, and district staff. by telephone and email, with information about:
  • School or district-level emergency information and school closings. Contact about emergency situations can be made in just minutes when a crisis arises.
  • Events (open houses, conferences, fun nights, etc.),
  • Academic communications (assessment reminders).
  • Student reminders (fund raisers, spirit day, etc.),
  • Notifications to parents of unexcused student absences.<More Information>
  • Reminders about library fines and overdue books <More Information>
  • Reminders about low meal balances <More Information>
  • How does it work? Parent and student information from the Student Information System (eSIS) is utilized when sending notifications regarding students. Notifications are sent in the language specified in the eSIS parent record. Whenever possible, the system combines multiple notification messages to the same phone number into a single call.  Parentlink will make up to six attempts to complete a call.
  • How to make sure you receive ParentLink messages.  Be sure the Student Information System.has correct contact information for you. Each of the schools that your child/children attend should be notified when phone numbers or email addresses change..
Attendance Notifications
Attendance notifications to parents for unexcused absences are made for all schools.

Who is Called?  Parents who have indicated that they are “living with the student” or are marked to ‘"receive a copy of correspondence" are notified of unexcused absences by phone and email. The phone number must be correct, and, if available, a valid email address on the eSIS parent record.

How to Avoid Being Notified of an Unexcused Absence.

For elementary students and pre-K students attending morning or all-day sessions, a parent must call the school prior to 9:30 am to report an excused absence to avoid receiving notification that the absence is unexcused.

For pre-school students attending afternoon sessions, a parent must call the school prior to 1:30 pm to report an excused absence.

For middle school and high school students, a parent must call the school prior to 10:45 am to report an excused absence.  If a morning notification is made, a second call will be made in the afternoon.  Parents of middle and high schools students will also receive a second call if the student is still unexcused as of 4:30 pm.  Parents are notified of unexcused absences at the time the data was pulled for each hour missed. For block periods, each hour of the block will be reported separately as an absence.
Each Tuesday evening, parents are notified of meal balances that fall below $3.50 and are based on balances at the end of the school day on Monday.

Library Fines and Overdue Book Notifications
Once a month, notifications of overdue books or library fines are made to parents who are “living with the student” or are marked to ‘receive a copy of correspondence’..
